
Emergency Kit (UK)

Load Bearing Equipment.
P.L.C.E Bergan  - With detachable side pockets, can be combined with webbing
yoke to make day sack - ensure size is correct, only use the "long" fitting
if you are 6' 2" or over.  Otherwise the bergan will foul web gear.

Set P.L.C.E webbing - i.e.  Waist Belt (pref. with "hippo" pad), Yoke,
2 x ammo pouches, 2 x utility pouches, Respirator Case, Water bottle cover .

Clothing.

2 x U.S.  B.D.U. Jacket Black Or Woodland according to perceived requirement.

Shemagh.
Good quality boots, depends on personal preference/perceived need, Danner are
excellent, The new Issue Pro-boot is a good, inexpensive choice and Hi-Tec
Magnums are excellent lightweight boots.
Woollen Watch Cap.
"Fleece" style jacket. Several manufacturers now provide these in tactical
colours.
Breathable Waterproof.  i.e. U.S. issue Gore-Tex parka or the new British
issue jacket, which is designed to be worn UNDER the windproof layer.

Sleeping.

Sleeping Bag - I still favour a down bag, well wrapped against moisture
ingress.
Sleeping bag liner - pertex or merkalon.
Kip mat - The Bundeswehr issue item folds up and makes a useful seat as well
as padding the rear of your bergan.
Breatheable Bivvy Bag 
Lightweight Backpacking tent

Cooking/Eating

Trangia Type stove - Bulky and slow but fuel is safe to carry and includes a
full mess set.
Sig Bottle - containing Methylated fuel for Trangia.
M.R.E's  - U.S. /UK issue or their commercial equivalents at least 3 days
full menus.
Tea Bags - Can't beat a brew!
Sugar, salt, pepper, Curry/chilli powder, dried milk powder.
Water Purifying Tablets
Waterproof Matches - real ones, not candle wax sealed!
K.F.S set - The Bundeswehr item is best and readily available through surplus
dealers.
'58 pattern water bottle
Non-stick '58 pattern mug, get the commercial version with the plastic lip,
avoids burns!
Water Filter - P.W.P type attaches to '58 pattern bottle
Spare filter for P.W.P
Hexamine fuelled folding stove - with fuel carried internally
P.38 style can openers (several).
Snacks - for on the move crisps, cereal bars, dried meat/fruit etc.

Personal Equipment.

Heavy Bladed Knife - Pick a solid no nonsense design i.e. full tang, no
hollow handle. The British Army Survival Knife is my personal choice.
Leatherman Tool - or similar.
Compass - Silva type with protractor base plate and sighting line in lid.
Maps  - of intended retreat area.
Map case.

Mag-Light - full size D Cell version, has "other" uses.

Boot care kit - Brush, cloth, wax.
Toilet roll - V. important!

This is just an example, using my personal kit as a basis, it represents a
moderate load and should be carefully packed between the bergan and the web
gear.  Use common sense in packing and try as far as possible to make the
bergan and your webbing independant of each other. (If you lose one you can
fall back on the other).  The exception is the personal survival kit which
should ALWAYS be carried on the person. All kit is easily available in the UK
